Features and Benefits
– Supports the display of newspapers, books, journals, and all printed materials that have been digitized
to the METS/ALTO standard.
– Includes “Pan and Scan” technology for easily scrolling through an entire document
and viewing it at different zoom levels.
– Allows both “article-level” and “page-level” display of digitized materials.
– Includes an automated clipping function for “article-level” material.
– Includes the built-in ability to browse the collection by date (calendar) and by publication.
– Includes advanced search functions, including “fuzzy search” to improve retrieval
on materials containing errors from an Optical Character Recognition (OCR) process.
– Is hugely customizable, and can be modified to have a completely new “look and feel”, or to integrate with
existing library software systems (e.g. federated search systems, document management systems, authentication or
digital rights management systems).
– Comes with the choice of two default user interfaces - “classic” or “modern” (for those who
don’t wish to create a customized look and feel).
– Is hugely scalable — multi-million page collections are possible with only relatively modest hardware.
– Is fast and efficient — large numbers of concurrent users are supported even when run on inexpensive server
hardware. There is no need to buy large and expensive hardware systems to host busy collections.
– Makes the most of available digital storage space by only storing the original archival master images (i.e. the
original “scans” of the materials). Derivative images are created on-the-fly, unlike competing systems
which must pre-generate and store large numbers of digital images.
– Installation support and basic customization is included with the core system. This includes:
– Modification of logos, fonts, colors, and text, in either of the two default user interfaces.
– Search engine optimization, for those wishing their collection to be accessible through Google and other
web search engines.
– Configuration of analytics tools to allow the usage of the collection to be monitored.
– Optimization of the system to suit the specific digitized materials.
– Configuration of an appropriate URL.
– Extensive support and maintenance options, ensuring your digital collection continues to run smoothly
and keeps pace with ever-evolving technologies.
