Demonstrations of "standard" Veridian installations

These sites are intended to demonstrate what is possible with a "standard" version of Veridian. That is, no additional customization work is required to set up Veridian as shown in these demos.

Demo 1

Demo 1 has the following features:

  • Multi-page pan-and-zoom document view.
  • Contains three newspaper titles each demonstrating different data that may be ingested into Veridian. The Daily Southern Cross uses article-level METS/ALTO data, the Daily Alta California uses page-level METS/ALTO data, and the Sacramento Transcript uses image-only data. For a more detailed description of these different types of digitized data please see our Veridian features page.
  • Faceted searching. Note that demo 1 is configured to search within "pages" by default, as it contains page-level data (in addition to article-level data). It's possible to search within "articles" too of course, though only the article-level material in the demo 1 collection will be found when searching in that way.
  • Standard user interface, in English and German.
  • Standard calendar display for browsing by date.

Demo 2

Demo 2 has the following features:

  • Single-page pan-and-zoom document view.
  • Contains the same data as demo 1.
  • Alternative user interface, in English and German.
  • Alternative calendar display for browsing by date.

Demo 3

Demo 3 has the following features:

  • Single-page static document view.
  • Contains four issues of one newspaper publication (the Pacific Rural Press), using article-level METS/ALTO data.
  • Is configured in "single publication mode", which is optimized for digital collections containing multiple issues of a single newspaper publication or journal.
  • Standard user interface, in English and German.
  • Standard calendar display for browsing by date.

Demo 4

Demo 4 has the following features:

  • Contains two books, one in German and one in English. Data is article-level METS/ALTO.
  • Multi-page pan-and-zoom document view.
  • Standard user interface, in English and German.
  • Standard calendar display for browsing by date.

Live Veridian installations

These sites are examples of live Veridian systems, belonging to our customers. Some are "standard" Veridian installations while others have been extensively customized. Please note that some of these collections use older versions of Veridian, so may not have all the features available in later versions.

California Digital Newspaper Collection

The California Digital Newspaper Collection is an example of a relatively large (approximately 400,000 pages) newspaper collection, made up entirely of article-level METS/ALTO data. It is presented on the Internet using a "standard" Veridian installation, meaning only basic setup and installation (changing colors, logos, and text) was carried out.

Papers Past — National Library of New Zealand

Papers Past is a large collection (about 1.3 million pages), again made up entirely of article-level METS/ALTO newspaper data. It is an example of a customized Veridian installation, with a completely new bilingual user interface and many small functional modifications.

NewspaperSG — Singapore National Library Board

NewspaperSG is an example of a site taking advantage of Veridian's web services API, allowing a completely new and unique user interface to be developed (in this case by the Singapore National Library themselves). In this configuration Veridian still does all the data ingest, searching, organizing, image manipulation, and other heavy lifting. The web services API allows the new user interface to access all Veridian's functionality as needed.
