– A standard Veridian software license
agreement entitles you to install and use two working copies of the software, as well as
an additional copy for backup purposes. This allows for one "staging/testing" and one "live"
Veridian installation to be installed with a single license. An alternative configuration
is to use a single license for two "live" installations hosting separate digital collections.
– Veridian has a graduated license fee scale,
based on the size of the digital collections to be supported. Licenses are currently available
to support collections of up to 100,000 pages, up to 300,000 pages, and up to 1 million pages.
There is also an "unlimited" license, allowing for an unlimited amount of content.
– It is possible to purchase one of the smaller
licenses initially, and upgrade to a larger license later as required.
– An unlimited number of separate digital
collections may be created and presented within a single installation of the Veridian software.
So long as the total number of digitized pages remains within the limit (if any) imposed by the
license agreement multiple collections are allowed under a single license.
– Veridian license agreements are perpetual
and license fees are not recurring. This means the license fee is a "one-off" cost — it
is not an annual fee.
– Installation and "basic customization"
is carried out by Digital Library Consulting, and is included at no additional cost with
every Veridian license. "Basic customization" includes the following:
– Modification of logos, fonts, colors, and text,
within one of the default Veridian user interfaces.
– Search engine optimization, if you wish
your digital collections to be accessible through Google and other web search engines.
– Configuration of analytics tools to allow
the usage of your digital collections to be monitored.
– Optimization of the system to suit your specific
digitized materials.
– Configuration of an appropriate URL.
– Veridian is not free open source software, but
is available under a "commercial open source" license if desired. This license gives you the same
key benefits associated with traditional open source software licenses. That is, it allows you
to modify the software in-house if required, and avoids the situation where you are completely
reliant on a single vendor (i.e. you can contract other vendors to support and/or modify the software
for you if needed). The only additional restrictions with the Veridian open source license, when
compared to traditional open source software licenses, are as follows:
– Neither the compiled software nor the source
code may be given, sold, or otherwise redistributed to other parties.
– Digital Library Consulting cannot continue
to support your Veridian software installation if it has been modified by you in-house or by a third
party.
– We pride ourselves on being flexible and
responsive to the needs of our customers, and this extends to the details of our license agreements.
The information in this table should therefore be considered a typical example only. Please
