Recommended Minimum Hardware (Veridian server)
– Dual-core 2.0Ghz or equivalent CPU
– 4Gb RAM
– 200Gb local storage space
Note that hardware requirements are dependant on the size of the digital collection and the number of
likely concurrent users. A single server with the recommended minimum hardware specifications will
typically support peak loads of approximately 200 page requests per minute. For large collections
source images and METS/ALTO data are typically stored on external storage (e.g. NAS or SAN), while
caches and search indexes are stored on local storage space. For very large collections more than
200Gb of local storage may be required. For very busy collections servers with dual quad-core processors
(i.e. 8 processing cores in total) and 16Gb of RAM are recommended. For extremely large and/or busy collections it
is also possible to split the Veridian™ software installation over two or more servers.
System requirements for users accessing Veridian-based collections
Users accessing Veridian collections may do so from any computer, so long as they have
a standard web browser. All major modern web browsers are supported, including Internet Explorer 6.0+,
Firefox 2.0+, Safari 2.0+, and Google Chrome.
Adobe Reader or a similar PDF viewing plugin is required to view PDF versions of pages, articles,
and sections, if Veridian is configured to deliver PDF files.
